The real family behind your family clean…
Rowena and Joey both talk fondly and sadly of their early childhood, but with a slight choke in their voice and energy shift upwards you soon find out where their drive to help other people comes from. You can see why people from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds line up every week to be a part of their fast-growing community of caregivers, people who are chosen above all on their character and spirit to serve others. This place is of ‘genuine care’.
Joey often says while putting his hand on his chest, “we can teach you housekeeping, but we can’t teach you this”!
Connecting and sparking so many lasting friendships doing the work they do, with most relationships built on a very simple but powerful principle, to listen, to really understand people – and to do the little things that make life feel more effortless. Their purpose is to allow everyone the right to a better quality of life, because they know all too well what the lack of support can lead to.
Their genuine appreciation for how precious life is in each and every moment is the driving force behind Family Clean.
Joey often wonders what his childhood would have been like if his parents weren’t so proud and asked someone to help take the pressure off, just to have a little more time to read a story book or just hang out together. How life could have been different if they had someone to do the laundry, tidy up or just vacuum the floors? Would it have allowed a little more time for his Mum and Dad to have the mind space they needed make better life choices, before things tipped over the edge? Coming from a second-generation farming family Joey saw his parents work tirelessly to make ends meet, often with his mother leaving for work before sunrise and not returning home until after dark to put food on the table. Sadly, for his family they didn’t have that someone to balance the demands of life and they lost everything – including what’s most valuable, family.
Joey met wife Rowena around the same time everything came crumbling down. At high school they shared a common pain and loss that cut even deeper for her; she lost her beloved father to pancreatic cancer.
We all share the same busy life, where time is limited and life is unpredictable. The very thing we all work so long and hard for, our pride to try and keep the balance, is in fact holding us back from the things that really count!
It’s moments like these we treasure at Family Clean…
“Hi there, We just wanted to thank Tobgay and Ugyen for looking after us so well over the last year. They are a wonderful couple who do much more than a ‘basic clean’ … they really go out of their way to make our lives a little easier. Last Christmas though they really saved us… Dana broke her wrist right before Christmas, which made lots of things difficult. They did all the things that add up to a smooth Christmas (including wrapping presents and helping with lights) and the fact we got to bed before midnight on Christmas Eve is all down to them. Thank you – we really appreciate you both.” Jay & Dana M. Upper Mount Gravatt.
