“We want to keep evolving”… meet Bruno and Gabriella

When you think of Brazilian people, what are some of the words that spring to mind? We think spirited, playful and passionate – and they’re exactly the traits that Bruno and Gabriella embody. Hailing from Brazil, they love Australia so much they have pushed through language, work and study barriers to make a life here.

Today they bring so much positive energy to the homes of the families they clean for – so much so that one of their families even invited them to Thanksgiving dinner last year! To us, it’s their openness and the gratitude they show for everyday things that makes them truly special people.

“The universe is made of stories.” We didn’t come up with this quote (poet Muriel Rukeyser did), but we think it’s the perfect way to describe just how important stories are; stories read before bed, stories of how our day was and the stories of the people around us – they all come together to weave a powerful narrative.

In this spirit, this year we are sharing the stories of our crews with you. They are all such kind and warm people, and we cannot wait for you to meet them and learn from them. First, here is Bruno and Gabriella’s story, as told by Bruno.

We are from Brazil…

My plan was to study English for six months, but after I arrived and saw the beautiful country and Brisbane, I invited Gaby to come too. As we were finishing our studies, we decided to spend more time here to get to know more about Australian culture.

That is when we met Family Clean and that was a gift for us, because we can work together and we have met beautiful families. We have been doing this for a year and this opportunity has brought us many situations where we can keep improving our English and experience Australian culture by learning about family lives. One thing we love to see here in Australia is so many families enjoying time together.

When we aren’t working, we are studying…

Gaby is a teacher in Brazil and I am a business administrator. Gaby is studying childcare and I am studying project management. We decided not to study courses that are on the migration list for skilled visas – we are trying to keep studying to get more experience in our fields because we want to keep evolving.

When we have a few days off…

We like to enjoy nature. Every time we have the opportunity to go away, we go camping in the mountains. We also like to walk near the river in Brisbane and go to the beach at the Sunshine Coast.

When it comes to cleaning…

I like to clean the kitchen and Gaby always cleans the bathroom first because she loves it, especially the shower!

All of our clients are special to us…

Most of our clients we have been with us from the very beginning. With every client, we find a way to make a schedule that works best for them. We just act naturally and be ourselves, have a chat when we can and care about their homes.

It is so important to put people first…

The most beautiful thing that we have seen in Family Clean is the feedback and how they care about people to train and prepare them, and to give them proper support so they can do their best.

If we could change one thing in the world…

It would be hunger and poverty. There are people with so much money and no reason to have so much while there are people with nothing.

Home is…

Safety. It is a safe harbour.

The best advice we have received…

Is from Gaby’s father. Every time when she shared ideas or dreams with him, he would say ‘go and follow your dreams and I am here if you need help and some support’. That gave us confidence to face challenges and fears.

Things that people don’t know about us are…

I know how to play five songs on the guitar (and if I have a few beers, I can play a few more). Gaby used to dance in a German folklore group and loves music so much she wishes she could play every instrument. We love listening to Sertanejo, which is folk music from the countryside in Brazil.

We want to thank Bruno and Gabriella for sharing their story! We are so proud to call them part of our family (and you can meet more of the clan here). – The Mother Ducks
