How We Work Together
You stay independent
You work as an independent contractor here, holding your own ABN, and you build your schedule around what suits both you and the families you’ll be helping. When you apply, you let us know the parts of Canberra and the wider ACT you can travel to and we use that to find placements that work for everyone involved. For many of our crews the result is a comfortable weekday rhythm within school hours, Monday to Friday, with evenings and weekends left clear.
How clients get matched to you
It all begins with your application. We look at what you tell us — your background, your skills, the experience you bring and the areas that work for you — and weigh it against what each Canberra household needs, factoring in location, availability and whether it’ll be a good overall fit. When a match comes together, we’ll reach out with the details and let you decide if to go ahead. More often than not those pairings turn into a lasting arrangement: the same home, familiar faces, and a regular slot that works just as well for the family as it does for you.
What FC handles, what’s on you
Think of it as a partnership with clear roles. On our side, we take care of finding your matches, keeping the admin in order and supporting you as you go — including a Crew Care team you can lean on whenever something comes up, and arranging cover for your regular homes if you’re ever unwell or on holiday, so no family is left in the lurch. On your side, the essentials are simple: a current ABN, your own public liability insurance for the time you’re working with us, a police check, and a real sense of care for every home you step into.

Meet Some of the Family Clean Canberra Crew
Michala – Home Assistant
Karabar
8 months with FC
Michala is a mum to three “chaotic boys” — and as she happily admits, her own house is always a bit of a jungle, which is exactly where she earned her stripes. Years of cleaning up after busy little ones (and becoming a self-confessed stain-removal expert along the way) mean there’s no mess that fazes her. Caring for homes around Karabar and Canberra’s south and east since late 2025, she brings real-life, unflappable know-how and a warm, no-judgement attitude to every home — because she genuinely gets what family life looks like.
Katrina – Home Assistant & Cleaner
Hughes
New to FC
Katrina grew up believing that a clean home brings joy — and she’s built a whole life around caring for others, from looking after a family member as their primary carer to working in aged care and childcare. So when she says she’ll treat your home like it’s her own, she means it. One of FC’s newest crew in the Canberra area, she’s reliable, detail-obsessed and genuinely excited to get stuck in — there’s nothing she loves more than leaving a space sparkling and a little bit brighter than she found it.
Maureen – Home Assistant
Evatt
10 months with FC
For Maureen, mess is an old friend — she’s a toddler mum, so chaos is her daily companion and she’s picked up every trick in the book to tackle it with a smile. Caring for homes around Evatt and Canberra’s north since mid-2025, she has a real gift for bringing back that calm, “ahhh” feeling the moment you walk through the door. Warm, patient and completely unfazed by the everyday mayhem of family life, she looks after every home like it’s her own.
Where Family Clean Connects Crew Members Across The ACT
Canberra is compact by capital city standards, but its town-centre structure means most crew members naturally find a home region and work outward from there. Domestic cleaning jobs in Canberra tend to cluster in the inner north and inner south, with growing demand across Gungahlin and Belconnen.
Inner south: Manuka, Kingston, Griffith, Yarralumla, Deakin, Forrest, Barton
Inner north: Braddon, Dickson, Watson, Bruce
Northern district: Gungahlin, Ngunnawal, Franklin
Western district: Belconnen, Florey, Page
Southern district: Kambah, Greenway, Fadden
Travel between Canberra suburbs is manageable by car — the radial road layout keeps most cross-district trips within a reasonable timeframe. Most crew members focus their bookings within one or two districts and keep the travel time predictable. The busiest and most popular crews who work with us have a broader travel reach – meaning more match opportunities. The team will help you think through the suburb groupings that suit your week.
Who Finds Their Stride In This Kind Of Work
Canberra’s demographic mix is distinctive. It’s a highly educated city with a high proportion of professionals — households that are looking for the right person to do the job well, and that tend to become long-term matches once the right connection is made.
The people who tend to find their footing quickly:
• Public servants moving to part-time or stepping back from a demanding role who want work that’s physical, independent, and well-paid
• ANU and UC students with solid blocks of daytime availability between study commitments
• Parents whose kids are in school and want consistent morning or midweek work that fits around pickup
• Semi-retirees who aren’t done working but want something with a sustainable pace
• Career-changers who’ve spent years in offices and want to be on their feet, working independently, and finished by early afternoon
• Existing cleaners already doing this work who want better rates, more consistency, and a team they can call
What connects all of them: a real care for other people’s homes, the reliability to show up as agreed, and the practical eye that sees what a room needs without requiring a checklist.
The Crew Care Team — What It Means Day To Day
The crew care team exists because a good match doesn’t stop at the introduction.
The Family Clean crew care team is built differently. Here are some of the moments Canberra crew members use them for:
• A late cancellation — a client pulls out same morning. The team helps you think through the day and checks whether there’s anything else available.
• Holiday or leave planning — when you’re away, the team can connect available crew members with your household so the routine doesn’t stall in your absence.
• A booking that you’re unsure of — occasionally a match isn’t what was expected. The team is there if you need them.
• Pre-first-booking nerves — plenty of crew members want a quick call before they walk through a new door for the first time. That’s what the team is there for.
• Health or schedule changes — things shift. The team helps you manage without losing the work you’ve built.
A crew member who has real backup does better work, keeps their households happier, and stays in the work longer. That’s the infrastructure the whole thing runs on.
What You’ll Do As A Canberra Home Assistant Or Cleaner
Cleaning is the heart of it. Most visits, that’s the job — floors, bathrooms, kitchens, and the tidy-up that makes a place feel looked after.
As a Home Assistant, you’ll pick up the things a busy household never quite gets to:
• Cleaning and tidying (the bulk of most visits)
• Laundry, and simple meal prep
• Watering plants and walking the dog
• Organising the cupboard, drawer or spare room that’s quietly got away from everyone
• The day-to-day bits that keep a home ticking
No two homes want the same mix. One week it’s the ironing that’s taken over the couch, the next it’s the spare room before the in-laws land. You and your client work that out between you.
As a Barefoot Basics Cleaner, you’ll help with the big jobs that make a home feel fresh and liveable: bathrooms and floors.
Tell us the days and hours that suit you, and we’ll work with you to find matches that fill your schedule.
