How We Work Together

You stay independent

You work as an independent contractor here, holding your own ABN, and you build your schedule around what suits both you and the families you’ll be helping. When you apply, you let us know the parts of Canberra and the wider ACT you can travel to and we use that to find placements that work for everyone involved. For many of our crews the result is a comfortable weekday rhythm within school hours, Monday to Friday, with evenings and weekends left clear.

How clients get matched to you

It all begins with your application. We look at what you tell us — your background, your skills, the experience you bring and the areas that work for you — and weigh it against what each Canberra household needs, factoring in location, availability and whether it’ll be a good overall fit. When a match comes together, we’ll reach out with the details and let you decide if to go ahead. More often than not those pairings turn into a lasting arrangement: the same home, familiar faces, and a regular slot that works just as well for the family as it does for you.

What FC handles, what’s on you

Think of it as a partnership with clear roles. On our side, we take care of finding your matches, keeping the admin in order and supporting you as you go — including a Crew Care team you can lean on whenever something comes up, and arranging cover for your regular homes if you’re ever unwell or on holiday, so no family is left in the lurch. On your side, the essentials are simple: a current ABN, your own public liability insurance for the time you’re working with us, a police check, and a real sense of care for every home you step into.

Meet Some of the Family Clean Canberra Crew

Michala – Home Assistant

📍Karabar

⏰ 8 months with FC

Michala is a mum to three “chaotic boys” — and as she happily admits, her own house is always a bit of a jungle, which is exactly where she earned her stripes. Years of cleaning up after busy little ones (and becoming a self-confessed stain-removal expert along the way) mean there’s no mess that fazes her. Caring for homes around Karabar and Canberra’s south and east since late 2025, she brings real-life, unflappable know-how and a warm, no-judgement attitude to every home — because she genuinely gets what family life looks like.

Katrina – Home Assistant & Cleaner

📍Hughes

⏰ New to FC

Katrina grew up believing that a clean home brings joy — and she’s built a whole life around caring for others, from looking after a family member as their primary carer to working in aged care and childcare. So when she says she’ll treat your home like it’s her own, she means it. One of FC’s newest crew in the Canberra area, she’s reliable, detail-obsessed and genuinely excited to get stuck in — there’s nothing she loves more than leaving a space sparkling and a little bit brighter than she found it.

Maureen – Home Assistant

📍Evatt

⏰ 10 months with FC

For Maureen, mess is an old friend — she’s a toddler mum, so chaos is her daily companion and she’s picked up every trick in the book to tackle it with a smile. Caring for homes around Evatt and Canberra’s north since mid-2025, she has a real gift for bringing back that calm, “ahhh” feeling the moment you walk through the door. Warm, patient and completely unfazed by the everyday mayhem of family life, she looks after every home like it’s her own.

Canberra Cleaning Jobs FAQs

The questions you’re Googling at 11pm — answered straight.

Yes — an active ABN is required before you join us in Canberra, since you’re operating as an independent contractor. If you don’t have one yet, registration is free and takes around fifteen minutes through the Australian Business Register. We’re happy to walk you through it during onboarding if that’s useful.

No. For hygiene and practicality, each Canberra household provides the products and equipment used in their home. You’ll typically find a vacuum, mop, cloths, bucket, multi-purpose spray, glass cleaner, and floor cleaner ready and waiting. Before your first visit, every family receives our Handy Equipment List so they’re prepared for your arrival.

When you apply, you’ll share details about your experience, availability, and which parts of Canberra you can comfortably travel to. We hold that alongside each family’s requirements and use it to propose matches based on location, skills, and schedule. Canberra runs from Gungahlin in the north to Tuggeranong in the south, with Belconnen, Woden and the inner suburbs in between — so geography shapes every match we make. The clearer your picture of where you can work, the more accurate the proposed matches will be.

When you apply, you’ll share which areas of Canberra you’re able to travel to — and we factor that into every match we make. Canberra spreads across the northern districts, the southern suburbs, the inner north and south, and out toward Belconnen and Woden, and we work across all of it. Most crews build a run centred around a preferred area of the city, but the best matches sometimes mean a little flexibility on travel. The clearer you are about what’s reasonable for you, the better we can work together to find a run that suits.

You’re an independent contractor — Family Clean isn’t your employer. You keep your independence and set your own schedule, and you’re also responsible for your ABN, insurance, and tax obligations. We take care of the matching, admin and support so you can stay focused on the Canberra households you serve.
Before you onboard, you’ll need public liability insurance in your own name, and it needs to stay current for the entire time you work with us. It covers both you and the household in the unlikely event that something goes wrong on a job. We can share details of providers that other Canberra crew members have used when you reach onboarding.

Once your onboarding is complete, you can start receiving match proposals straight away. New crew members in Canberra typically build toward their preferred number of clients within the first few weeks — opportunities come through regularly as new households join.

Yes — many Canberra bookings run on weekdays during school hours, so it’s a natural fit if you need to be free for drop-off and pick-up. When you apply, you’ll share your available days and we’ll work to find matches where the timing suits both sides.

No fixed minimum. Some Canberra crew members take on a handful of visits a week during school hours; others build a fuller schedule across multiple households. We only ask that you show up consistently and let us know when anything in your availability changes.

As a contractor, your time is yours to manage — there’s no formal leave process to follow. When you know you’ll be away, give us as much notice as you can — the earlier the better — and we’ll help to arrange temporary cover so your regular Canberra clients are looked after while you’re gone.

Even careful matching doesn’t guarantee a perfect fit every time. If a new connection isn’t working after a visit or two — and a direct conversation with the Canberra household hasn’t resolved it — just let us know, and we’ll help find a better fit for both sides.
