How We Work Together

You stay independent

As an independent contractor, you hold your own ABN, set your own schedule, and decide how your week looks. You tell us where you can reasonably travel across Perth, the days that suit you, and which matches you can take on. Most Perth crew members work through the school day, Monday to Friday, and keep their evenings and weekends free.

How clients get matched to you

Everything you tell us when you apply — your background, skills, experience and the areas that suit you — gets weighed against what each Perth family is looking for. We match on location, availability and overall fit. When something looks right for both sides, we’ll reach out with the details and you can let us know from there. A good match tends to settle into a rhythm: the same home, the same faces, a regular slot that works for everyone.

What FC handles, what’s on you

Matching, admin, and support all sit with us — including a Crew Care team you can get hold of, and someone to cover your regular clients if you’re sick or away, so the homes you care for don’t go without. On your side: an active ABN, your own public liability insurance for the duration of your time with us, and a police check. And a big one – a genuine care for every home you walk into.

Yes — an active ABN is a requirement before your first booking. Because you’re working as an independent contractor rather than an employee, your ABN is how you invoice for your time. If you haven’t registered yet, it’s free and takes around fifteen minutes through the Australian Business Register. We’ll walk you through it during onboarding if you need a hand.

No — for hygiene reasons, each family supplies the products and equipment used in their home. That keeps things clean between visits and means you’ll always be working with products suited to that home’s surfaces and fabrics. A typical Perth household will have a vacuum, mop, bucket, cloths, brushes, multi-purpose spray, glass cleaner and floor cleaner ready for you. We share a Handy Equipment List with every family at the booking stage, so both sides know exactly what’s needed before you arrive.

Using the details you share at onboarding — your skills, experience, and where you can travel — alongside each family’s requirements, we match you with clients based on location, availability and overall fit. Perth’s scale means geography matters more than in most cities: the more clearly you tell us which areas work for you, the better the matches we can send your way. When a match comes through, you see the details before you decide. If a match doesn’t work, you can pass — the goal is a connection that works for both of you.

You tell us where you can travel to and how far, and we factor that into every match. Our service area roughly covers Perth’s northern and southern suburbs, with the Swan River as a practical dividing line between the two halves. Most crew members identify as northside or southside and build their run accordingly — crossing the river regularly adds real time to your day. Some cover the inner western suburbs; others stay in one corridor. The more specific you are, the better the run we can build you.

You’re an independent contractor — Family Clean isn’t your employer. You keep your independence and flexibility, and you’re also responsible for your own ABN, insurance and tax. We take care of the matching, admin and support so your time stays on the work.

You’ll need your own public liability insurance, in your name, before your first booking with families — and it needs to stay current for the duration of your time with us. It protects both you and the home in the rare event something goes wrong on a job. We can point you to providers other Perth crew members have used during onboarding.

Once you’ve completed onboarding, you can start being matched with clients straight away. Most new crew members build toward their preferred schedule within the first few weeks as opportunities come through daily across Perth.

Most of the work sits within school hours, Monday to Friday — ideal if you want to be home for pickup or keep your evenings and weekends free. Whether you’re near state schools in the northern suburbs, Catholic schools in the south, or the independent school network in the western suburbs, that school-day window lines up well with how Perth households schedule their cleaning.

No fixed minimum. Some Perth crew members take on a few hours during school days; others build a fuller week across multiple clients. We simply ask that you show up consistently and give us a heads-up when anything in your schedule changes.

As a contractor, your availability is yours to manage — there’s no leave form to submit or approval to wait for. When you know you’re going to be away, give us as much notice as you can and we’ll help to provide a temporary match while you’re away. The more lead time you can give, the better we can look after everyone on your run.

Even with careful matching, sometimes a connection just doesn’t click. If after a visit or two it’s not working — and a direct conversation with the client hasn’t helped — get in touch with us and we’ll look at finding a better fit for both sides.
