Why Melbourne Cleaners Choose Family Clean

I am part of Family Clean’s team and enjoy the results and appreciation from the clients I clean for regularly!  I was rapt when I came across a cleaning company that fit exactly what I was looking for!! They are good to communicate with and even tho my schedule is quite full right now I still enjoy looking at the jobs available!

— Cassandra, Williamstown

“It’s more than just a checklist for me—it’s about creating a better rhythm for the home. I’ve realised that being that reliable ‘extra set of hands’ is exactly where I want to be. It’s the best feeling knowing that the cleaning and cooking I’m about to do will take a massive weight off that parent’s shoulders. Seeing a family actually get the space to relax and thrive because of my help makes me so proud.”

— Steffanie, Meadow Heights

The team support is amazing and you can arrange your own schedule. Clients are very kind, the payments are efficient and on time. Very comfortable and helpful working circumstances.

— Ozlem & Can, Brunswick

How We Work Together

You stay independent

You’re an independent sole trader with your own ABN — Family Clean isn’t your employer, and this isn’t a gig app. But independent doesn’t mean on your own. You contract with us to take on the work we bring you, and there’s a real team behind you: finding the families, organising the matches, and we’re on hand whenever you need support. You tell us where you can reasonably travel in Melbourne and the hours that suit your life, and we work with that in mind.

How clients get matched to you

Here’s where the personal touch kicks in. When you come on board, we get the full picture from you — your skills, your experience, the kind of homes you’d love to work in, how far you can travel across Melbourne, the rhythm of your week. Melbourne runs in corridors — the inner north up through Brunswick and Coburg, the east through Hawthorn and Camberwell, bayside from St Kilda down through Brighton. We weigh all of that up against each family’s brief: what they need help with, their schedule, their household, their wishlist. When the fit feels right on both sides, we send through the match with everything you need to know, so you can reach out and say hello to your new family yourself.

What FC handles, what’s on you

We handle finding the clients, taking the bookings, and organising the match — and we’re on hand whenever you need support. On your side, you’ll need your own ABN, a current police check, and your own public liability insurance in place to come onboard. Oh, and one more thing — you’ve got to actually love what you do. The people who thrive with us are the ones who get a little buzz from a spotless kitchen or a freshly made bed.

Meet Some of the Family Clean Melbourne Crew

Cassandra – Home Assistant

📍Williamstown

⏰ 18 months with FC

Cassandra has been part of the FC family since late 2024, lovingly caring for homes around Williamstown and Melbourne’s inner-west. With a mix of experience — from housekeeping and end-of-lease cleans to childcare and aged-care support — there’s not much she can’t take in her stride. A natural multitasker with a gentle eye for detail and a real soft spot for pets, she turns up with fresh energy and a smile, and leaves every home feeling brighter and loved.

Steffanie – Home Assistant

📍Meadow Heights

⏰ 8 months with FC

Steffanie joined FC in late 2025 and takes care of homes around Meadow Heights and Melbourne’s north. As a busy mum and wife with a toddler of her own, she’s a natural at turning chaos into calm — and she means it. She always goes beyond the basics, with a warm understanding that it’s the little things that can truly make someone’s day. Clients adore the gentle, thoughtful care she brings to every home.

Ozlem & Can – Home Assistants

📍Brunswick

⏰ 3 years with FC

Ozlem and Can are a wonderful duo who’ve been part of the FC community since 2023, starting up in Brisbane and later moving down to Melbourne. They care for homes across Brunswick West and Melbourne’s inner-north. Their years as Airbnb hosts taught them exactly what makes a space feel spotless and welcoming — and they bring that same warmth and pride to every home, making sure every nook and cranny shines.

Where Family Clean Crews Work Across Melbourne’s Suburbs

Melbourne is a big, spread-out city, so where you’re based matters. Domestic cleaning jobs in Melbourne concentrate through the inner east and bayside, with steady work across the inner north and growing demand in the west.

Inner city: Fitzroy, Collingwood, Richmond

Inner north: Brunswick, Northcote, Coburg

Northern suburbs: Preston, Reservoir, Thomastown

Eastern suburbs: Hawthorn, Kew, Camberwell, Box Hill

Bayside: St Kilda, Brighton, Elwood

South-east: Caulfield, Oakleigh, Glen Waverley

Western suburbs: Footscray, Yarraville, Williamstown

Most Melbourne crew members work a single corridor — the inner north, the eastern line, bayside, or the west — rather than crossing the city between bookings. Melbourne’s trains and trams run in and out of the city more than across it, so travelling along a corridor is straightforward and cutting between two of them rarely is. A car opens up the outer suburbs comfortably; for inner work between Fitzroy, Brunswick and Richmond, the tram will usually do the job.

What You’ll Do As a Melbourne Home Assistant or Cleaner

Cleaning is the heart of it. Most visits, that’s the job — floors, bathrooms, kitchens, and the tidy-up that makes a place feel looked after.

As a Home Assistant, you’ll pick up the things a busy household never quite gets to:

• Cleaning and tidying (the bulk of most visits)

Laundry, and simple meal prep

• Watering plants and walking the dog 🐾

• Organising the cupboard, drawer or spare room that’s quietly got away from everyone

• The day-to-day bits that keep a home ticking

No two homes want the same mix. One week it’s the ironing that’s taken over the couch, the next it’s the spare room before the in-laws land. You and your client work that out between you

As a Barefoot Basics Cleaner, you’ll help with the big jobs that make a home feel fresh and liveable: bathrooms and floors.

Tell us the days and hours that suit you, and we’ll work with you to find matches that fill your schedule.

What You’ll Need If You’re Successful

✅ ABN

✅ Current Police Check

✅ Public Liability Insurance (don’t stress, we’ll help with this bit)

✅ Your own transport or reliable public transport to get between jobs

✅ Good English for notes and friendly chats with clients

Who Tends To Do Well In This Work

There’s no single type of person who thrives here, but a few profiles come up again and again across Melbourne.

• Parents who want hours that fit around school drop-off and pick-up, and a week they can actually plan.

Career-changers leaving an office or hospitality role who want work that’s physical, independent and out of a fluorescent-lit building.

• Students — Melbourne has one of the largest student populations in the country — who need income that flexes around lectures and exam periods.

• Semi-retirees who want to stay active and useful a few mornings a week without committing to full-time anything.

• Experienced cleaners who are tired of going it alone and want regular households plus a team they can call.

What all of them share is the thing that matters most: a real care for other people’s homes, the reliability to turn up when you said you would, and the knack of seeing what needs doing without having to be told.

What Support Looks Like Once You’re In

The part most people don’t expect is having someone to call. Our crew care team is made up of real humans with phone numbers, not a ticket system that emails you back in two days.

Here’s when crew members might reach for them:

• A client cancels at the last minute and you want to know where that leaves your day and your pay.

• You’re heading off on holiday and need cover arranged so your clients are looked after and your spot’s still there when you’re back.

• Something feels off at a booking — an awkward situation, a request you’re not sure about — and you want some guidance from someone who’s seen it before.

• It’s your first booking and the nerves have kicked in, and you’d rather talk it through than walk in cold.

• A health issue comes up and you need to step back for a bit without losing your matches.

Most cleaning companies in Melbourne don’t build this type of support. We think it’s the difference between a job you tolerate and work you want to stay in for the long term — because when something goes wrong, and occasionally it will, you’re not on your own.

Melbourne Cleaning Jobs FAQs

The questions you’re Googling at 11pm — answered straight.

Yes — an ABN is a requirement before you onboard as you’re an independent contractor, not an employee. If you don’t have one, registering through the Australian Tax Office (ATO) online takes about ten minutes and is free. Our team will be happy to help if you need assistance getting set up.

Home Assistants and Barefoot Basics Cleaners work with Family Clean as independent contractors, not employees. That means you build and manage your own schedule and shape the work around the rest of your life. We take care of the matching, admin and support, so you can focus on doing great work in the homes you’re connected with.

You’ll need public liability insurance in place before you start with families and for the duration of your time with us — it protects you and the home in the rare event something goes wrong on the job. We can point you to providers other Home Assistants and Barefoot Basics Cleaners have used, and we’ll cover this during onboarding.

Yes — school-run-friendly hours are one of the most common schedules among Melbourne crew members. Whether you’re based near state schools in Brunswick, Catholic schools in Kew, or the independent school belt in the inner east, that window lines up well with how Melbourne households schedule their cleaning. You tell us the hours that work for you, and we’ll look for matches that have a similar availability.

No. All cleaning products, equipment, and supplies are provided by the client at their home. You arrive ready to work — no lugging a vacuum cleaner onto the Upfield line or loading up your car before a long run through the eastern suburbs. If a household has specific product preferences (which some Melbourne clients do, especially those with young children or allergies), they’ll have what they need on hand. We provide a products and equipment list at the time of booking so clients will be aware of what’s required.

Using the details you share at onboarding — your skills, experience and where you can travel — alongside each family’s requirements for their service, we match you with clients based on location, availability and overall fit. If you have preferred suburbs you want to work in, let us know and we can offer you more personalised matches dependent on your location.

There’s no minimum — you’re free to build your schedule at your own pace. Some crew members take on just a few hours during school days; others build a fuller week across multiple clients. We simply ask that you’re reliable and keep us in the loop when your availability changes.

You tell us which areas suit you and we work from there. Melbourne’s geography means this matters — crew members who live in St Kilda or Elwood will typically prefer a bayside or inner-south run, while those in the outer east are better placed for Glen Waverley, Box Hill, and Ringwood. You might be happy across multiple corridors, or you might want to stay closer to home. Either way, being specific helps us build you a run that actually works week to week.
Once you’ve completed onboarding, you’ll be available for matching straight away. Most new crew members build toward their preferred schedule within the first few weeks as opportunities come through daily across Melbourne.
As an independent contractor, you manage your own availability — there’s no leave application to submit. When you know you’re going to be away, you give your households reasonable notice (two weeks where possible) and let us know so we can help with temporary cover if needed.
This can happen – even with our careful matching process. If you find it’s not a good fit after a service or two, and a conversation between you and the client can’t smooth it over, let us know and we’ll help to explore a new match.
